The Restart Grants payments will be available from 1 April 2021. Businesses will have to apply for the one-off grants via local councils.
Eligible businesses in the hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym sectors may be entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £18,000 from their local council. Eligible businesses in the non-essential retail sector may be entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £6,000 from their local council.
The £5 billion Restart Grant scheme has been designed to support businesses in the retail sector which plan to reopen and help them through until 21st June when it is hoped the last of the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Local Authorities will be responsible for delivering the funding to eligible businesses.
Those businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of exactly £15,000 or under on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £8,000. Businesses with a rateable value over £15,000 on the local rating list and less than £51,000 on will receive a payment of £12,000 and businesses with a rateable value of exactly £51,000 will receive a payment of £18,000.
As part of their application process for the scheme, all businesses will be required to self-certify that they meet all eligibility criteria. Local Authorities will need to run an application process for all first-time applicants for a Covid-19 business grant and must be satisfied that businesses that have previously received related grants under this scheme meet the eligibility criteria for the Restart Grant.
